Growing up in Paris with both Sefardi and Ashkenazi Jews, yes , indeed the Ashkenazi had a sense of intellectual superiority, they tended to be left wing bien pensant, however, quickly the "Arab" Jews made a lot of money, took over medecine, culture and art and now are more inclined to be on the right side in politics, especially as they understand Islam much better (evidently) and they see the impact that it has had on the West.
